Think boring old Microsoft is just good for work? Think again! Besides the conventional presentations, reports and spreadsheets that Microsoft programmes churn out on the regular, many artists are finding new, creative ways to make use of the Microsoft Software. It is possible to have work and play all in the same programme after all.

Sure, after a day of squinting at numbers and entering them into tiny cells, the last thing you’d want to do upon reaching home is to stare at more cells. But fret not; with Microsoft Excel, therapy comes in the form of painting. A pixel artist going by the moniker Shukei01 shows us how it’s done on youtube:
With autoshapes, backgrounds and heaps of patience, Shukei01 documents the entire process from a blank spreadsheet to amazing portraits, which easily takes 5-6 hours to complete. While this requires considerable technical skill, it would probably be easier to make use of the autoshapes provided to produce neater drawings than a pen and paper one. If all else fails, you could simply upload your favourite picture to the background and colour-fill the corresponding cells above it, jigsaw style:

Recreate Masterpieces With Paint
While we all know it’s perfectly possible to paint using a programme called Paint, most of us do not use the software that comes with the Microsoft OS to its full potential.
